Eric and Joni Kay, Married

On a cool, clear mid-October Saturday, I made way from the corn and bean fields of central Illinois to the suburban sprawl surrounding Chicago to photograph Eric and Joni Kay's wedding. We'd had a lot of fun with their engagement session months earlier and I expected this day would bring more of the same.

Eric and Joni Kay are a delightful couple. They've gathered some great friends over the years, many of whom were in the wedding party, so their wedding day was full of moments of laughter and sometimes playful mischief. At one point, for example, it appeared that Eric may have had some second thoughts about the whole marriage thing but his groomsmen convinced him he'd be OK.  At the reception, rather than simply have the maid of honor and best man toast the couple, each party attendant shared some meaningful thoughts about their relationship with Eric and Joni Kay.  It's clear that these two have some terrific friends and family.

The ceremony and reception took place in the Chapel at Calvary Church in Naperville, a gorgeous room in which to celebrate a wedding.  Chicago-based photographer Angie Garbot, whom I'd met at the Davis Love Story Workshop back in May, helped me capture all the best moments.  In the interest of trying something new, we set up a "photo booth" at the reception to allow guests an opportunity to get a nice (or silly) photograph while they're all dressed up.  I'd encourage couples to consider adding a photo booth to their wedding package--it's great fun!

Congratulations to Eric and Joni Kay, and thanks again for letting me make your photographs.
