One of the best parts of my work as a business portrait photographer is getting to meet so many interesting people and helping them accomplish their goals.
Heidi and Ieda Herman are indeed two interesting ladies with goals to accomplish.
This mother/daughter pair live in the Morton/Peoria area and recently came to Lincoln for some promotional photographs. Heidi has just written her first book, The Legend of the Icelandic Yule Lads. Her mother, Ieda, published her first book, Trolls - Monster Worm - Hidden People: Fond Memories of Iceland, in 2012. Ieda (who just turned 90, by the way) spent her childhood in Iceland, married an American serviceman, then came to the United States after World War II. She raised 10 children here while also working as an interior designer. Heidi is taking the Icelandic folks tales that she learned from her mother and adapting them into a series of children's books.
Since the books and stories share a strong relationship and connection to each other, we wanted to emphasize that relationship between Heidi and Ieda in the marketing images we created. In this one for example, we wanted to convey the idea that these were stories that Ieda was passing along to her daughter Heidi.
Heidi wanted some photographs in a library setting, so we also spent some time making pictures at the nearby Lincoln Public Library. The photograph below and the one of Heidi at the top of the post were done at the library.
After we returned from the library, we took some time back at the studio for a round of more casual/lifestyle portraits for Heidi as well.
It was a delight to meet and work with these two ladies. I asked Heidi to share her thoughts on the session; here's what she wrote:
